Just Start.
Jun 14, 2023In my life I spend a lot of my time doing things that I'm good at.
I'm in my sweet spot, in my genius zone, 80 to 90% of the time.
But the portion of the time when I'm doing things that I'm either not good, don't do very often or don't enjoy doing - that's when tasks are the hardest to start.
The areas I don't really love, for me its creating a budget, the detail and the nitty gritty of actually doing a budget and all the numbers and making it all work, this is a different way of working for me, it’s not the usual way I use my brain.
I have to focus, I have to concentrate, I have to be really clear about what I’m doing and I find that once I get into it I’m fine, but it’s the idea of starting it that makes me procrastinate on it at first.
If you’re procrastinating on starting something - like they say at Nike - just do it!
Just start that assignment.
Just start that blog.
Just start that report.
Just start that speaking gig.
Take a step toward it. The very act of taking a step toward it creates momentum, progress and satisfaction, and makes you want to finish it.
If you don’t take that first step because you’re stuck in perfectionism or you’re procrastinating too much, then you won't ever get the feeling of actually having completed something.
What is it in your life that you can just start today?
